Christmas in historic Perugia
Arrive in Umbria and check into your hotel. In the afternoon, walk along Corso Vannucci to Piazza IV Novembre, the monumental heart of Perugia. At Christmas, the underground passages of Rocca Paolina provide a memorable setting for stalls selling crafts and gifts. Evening at leisure, with the option of arranging a dinner featuring local specialities. Overnight stay.
Corciano and the lights of Lake Trasimeno
After breakfast, head to Corciano, one of Umbria’s most distinctive medieval villages. Explore its walls, lanes and little squares, often decorated with traditional nativity scenes. Enjoy lunch at leisure before continuing to Castiglione del Lago for sweeping lake views. After dusk, experience the festive atmosphere around Lake Trasimeno and Castiglione del Lago. Return to the hotel; a local dinner can be arranged on request. Overnight stay.
Gubbio and its giant Christmas tree
Discover Gubbio, a medieval city with a character all its own. Wander through the San Martino quarter and on to Piazza Quaranta Martiri, browsing Christmas stalls and sampling local food. The highlight is the enormous Christmas tree on Mount Ingino, one of Gubbio’s best-loved symbols. Dinner at a traditional restaurant can be arranged on request. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.
One last glimpse of Umbria
Breakfast and check-out. If time allows, stop in Assisi to wander through its historic centre and admire its basilicas before heading home.
Find a viewpoint overlooking Mount Ingino before the Christmas tree lights up. Watching the hillside change from sunset colours to a sparkling display is a wonderful way to experience Gubbio at Christmas.
