Gubbio does not simply reveal itself: it must be climbed.

Umbria’s most vertical city unfolds across terraces of grey stone, where Palazzo dei Consoli dominates a square suspended above the valley. The historic centre retains a medieval character that has not been restored simply to please the visitor: it has remained true to itself.

Narrow streets, stone doorways and tower houses tell the story of a city that has travelled through the centuries without seeking approval.

Beyond the historic centre, Monte Cucco Regional Park preserves one of Europe’s most extensive karst systems. The Monte Cucco Cave is explored along an equipped route leading into an environment where daylight gradually loses its meaning.

Stalactites, galleries and a silence that can almost be felt physically create an entirely different perception of space, sound and time.

During the excursion, lunch is planned in Gubbio and features ingredients and flavours from the Umbrian Apennines: black truffle, mountain pulses and traditional mountain cheeses.
